The Life Drawing compulsion

The last few months I've had some major changes in my life, joining the staff of the Housing Trust of Santa Clara County as a part-time marketing communications associate, and leaving my business networking Leads group behind, as well as most other freelance work. But one habit has stayed constant throughout this time, my addiction to life drawing.

I've been enjoying life drawing as a habit/compulsion/therapy since I discovered it as an art major in college, and off and on throughout the years have found different classes, groups and gatherings to continue the practice. For the past two years I've joined a group that meets at the Alameda Artworks in San Jose, run by friend and fellow artist Deanna Beye. What a relief after a long day staring at a computer screen to join like minded artists to just DRAW. Drawing from a live model, ever changing and moving, is challenging and totally absorbing for me. Some nights I feel like I've made absolutely no progress in the past 20 years, other nights I pat myself on the back for creating something that is pleasing. Whatever the outcome, it's the process that I enjoy -- and the company!

I took a life drawing class at DeAnza College several years ago. there is an interesting energy around the entire experience. I wish I had saved one or two sketches.

You have such talent Barbara.
