Just back from the wrap-up reception for our local SWAN Day (Support Women Artists Now) event at Alameda Artworks in San Jose, "Tenacity, Guts and Grace". Enjoyed seeing the film "Who Does She Think She Is", an inspiring and upsetting look at the choices women artists have to make -- even today -- to pursue their artistic path. And the under-representation in galleries and museums that we still face. A must see for every woman artist, especially younger ones.
My painting for the show is called "Kitchen Comrades" (at left), featuring an ever present cat and a room I'm often found in! The artist Joan Brown was my inspiration, not in style, but the substance of using everyday life as a subject for art. It was a pleasure to be invited to show in this event, and I hope it continues to grow each year.
